5 Things You Didn't Know About Settle Down Farm
1. Who are you and where are you from originally?
We are Ann Wilby and Ahmed Amlani. Ann grew up in Grand Forks but Ahmed grew up in Surrey.
2. How did you end up in the Kootenays?
We met while we were both volunteering on an urban farm in Vancouver called Inner City Farms. From there we worked on a farm in Crofton on Vancouver Island called Tatlo Road Farm. We were so inspired by the folks at Tatlo Road that we wanted to have a go at our own market garden and got started in Grand Forks where we had some land lease opportunities.
3. What inspired you to become a farmer?
We had a lot of fun volunteering at Inner City Farms. And then again working at Tatlo Road. We both enjoy growing food, solving puzzles (such as how to make an income growing food), and gambling (farming is really just a socially acceptable way to gamble).
4. What's your favorite part about being a farmer?
We always have an excuse to have another cup of coffee.
5. What are your future dreams?
Ann's dream is to one day have a cat sanctuary. Ahmed's dream is to become the next Larry David by writing a sitcom centered around a small town farmer's market.
