Ingredients
1 bunch Hon Tsai Tai
1 lb ground beef
1 package tofu
Sauce Ingredients
100 ml Hoisin sauce
25 ml (1 tbsp plus 2 tsp) Sambal Oelek chili paste (found at Kootenay Coop)
25 ml (1 tbsp plus 2 tsp) tamari
10 ml (2 tsp) Mirin rice cooking wine (found at Kootenay Coop)
15 ml (1 tbsp) toasted sesame oil
9 grams (1 tbsp) garlic powder or 1 clove fresh
Sesame seeds or chili crisp to garnish
Serves 2-3
Instructions
Preheat 3 large pans- 1 to fry the tofu with enough oil to thinly cover the whole pan, 1 to sauté the Hon Tsai Tai with a small amount of oil, and 1 to cook the ground beef with a tiny bit of oil.
While the pans are preheating, make the sauce by combining all of the ingredients in a bowl and stirring well.
Add the ground beef to the preheated pan and cook until almost no pink is left, then add the sauce. Continue cooking until no pink remains in the beef.
Cut the tofu into bite sized pieces and toss into the preheated oil. Brown each side, then remove from the oil and toss with a light amount of salt.
Chop about 1/2 inch of the Hon Tsai Tai stems off and then cut rest into bite sized pieces. Toss into the preheated pan and cook on medium heat briefly, stirring often. Add a small amount of salt to taste. Remove from heat as soon as the stems are tender to avoid overcooking.
Combine the tofu, cooked veggies, and ground beef to a bowl and enjoy!
