FARM NEW

2023 In a Nutshell

We've nearly completed our third year of farming here in the Kootenays - and what a year it was! Here were some of the highlights:

We moved our farm business from Passmore to Pass Creek.

We converted a shipping container into a walk-in cooler.

We turned a raw field into a farm.

We spent months (literally) pulling sod and weeds out of our garden beds.

We purchased thousands of pounds of produce from other Kootenay-based farmers.

It was another whirlwind of a season but it also our smoothest season to date. We just wanted to say thank you to everyone who chose to support hard-working Kootenay farmers and food producers this year. We couldn't have done it without you! ❤️

P.S. We recieved a bag of sweets and a beautiful window hand cloth in some of the bags and boxes we collected. We aren't sure who they were from but we wanted to say thank you for the gifts!

No More Orange Carrots ☹️

Last year we made plans with Brendan and Cali from Salix & Sedge Farm in Salmo to grow us storage carrots for this winter. Unfortunately in farming things don't always go to plan…

Brendan and Cali usually lose about 25% of their carrot crop to rodent and pest damage. This year they lost nearly 90%.

They weren't able to give us the full amount of our orange carrot order but they were able to make up most of our total order by substituting coloured carrots.

We won't have orange carrots for the remainder of the winter but we'll have plenty of white, yellow and rainbow. Just think of it as a good opportunity to get acquainted with the lesser known carrot varieties! You can substitute coloured carrots for any recipe using standard orange carrots as they all taste very similar 🙂

NEW PRODUCTS

Mulberry Beauty Potatoes

Bake-At-Home Morning Buns

Description: If you've never had a Morning Bun before than you're in for a real treat! Morning Buns are similar to a cinnamon bun except they're made with croissant dough that puffs up during baking, resulting in flaky and buttery layers.

The dough is sweet and sticky. When you take a bite the thin layers of pastry will crackle in your mouth. The heart of the bun is soft, moist and filled with a delightful cinnamon sugar filling that melts in you mouth. Baker Mike really outdid himself with these pastries!

About Luv Affair Pastry

Luv Affair Pastry was created by local baker Mike. He has spent many years perfecting his recipes. He originally started off selling his pastries at the Nelson farmers market. He then had a pop up at Au Soleil Levant for many years. Mike makes some of the best pastries we've ever had so we were excited when he decided to let us carry his products!

Details: comes in a box of 3 or 6 unbaked pastries.
